| I just returned home after an evening in jail. I think I always feel so inspired after my visits. Exhaustion has set in though. It is so awesome to see that some of them are really getting into God's Word and coming alive. Hearing a girl talk about how she just read in her Bible that God works through weakness and is going to use her past as a prostitute and crack addict to help other people is AWESOME!!! Awesome. Our God is awesome!!! She has been reading her Bible! Power in the King. Just think that under the skin of what the world just sees as a prostitute, God knows are the makings of a heart that can be a powerhouse for the Kingdom.
It is so excellent that we serve a God that loves anybody from anywhere. Boy, can we ever love that about Him!
| Wow! And so it has been a month! Autumn is here! I like the crisp air...and cider, bonfires, and hopefully a hayride will fall in somewhere!
Wouldn't it be great to speak Italian? All day at work I felt tempted to speak Spanish with an Italian accent! Ha! I loved that this summer in Europe...I had fellow students in my classes from all over the world! I remember one girl from Rome having such a THICK Italian accent that it still sounded nearly Italian when she spoke Spanish! It was so fascinating to see a Japanese student's notes as he wrote in his native language about our Spanish lessons! Characters are fantastic! Anyhow...my work day is coming to an end and home sounds like a nice place to be! Ciao!
| Oh, Agassi. We wanted you to win. Humility is a beautiful thing. | | |
| Quarters not Euros. Hugs not kisses. Cars not public transpo...and oh la la where art thou my French?
I'm back!
Sarah and I met two girls on the train from Madrid to Paris (from Gabon, Africa and Beijing, China-presently studying in CA)! Our friend from Beijing ended up staying at our hotel with us in Paris! It was great and she said that one day when we want to go to Beijing to let her know and she can either go with us or put us in contact with friends! Hooray!
Paris was beautiful! Eiffel Tower at night. Mona Lisa's dauntless gaze. Sacre Couer's stained glass.
But all of that falls in the shadows, because so many havn't taken Jesus' hand to walk a new road. What now?
| Ahh...1:16am and all is abuzz in the streets of Valencia! I can hear all of the people at the cafes outside below our apt. window. =o) Nice breeze. Nice night!
It was a great Saturday! Sarah & I were planning on trying to go to the Island of Formentara this weekend, but the plans didn´t come together in time! We could´ve rented bicycles/mopeds to ride around the island! ...The day was great though! We spent it at the beach and then went into the city for dinner, WHERE guess what? There were so many street musicians and occasionally one with an accordian would filter their way around the tables in the street as we had dinner! One even played a song that I like so much. =o) I told Sarah that I want her to go play in the city for a night...she can put her hat in the road...=o) Aw.
I was told that less than 1% of the people here know Jesus. That is a very tiny, tiny portion of a country!!!! SO, today I had an interesting experience. =o) This guy (and his group of buddies..there were about 4 of them) started talking to me at the beach. They invited me to the ¨discotec¨ (very common here...the club scene...you know me...bring it on baby...no...) and then over to chat with them for awhile! It was so cool to talk with them about Jesus. They said that I am the only chica they have met that teaches the Bible (Yea...I sort of changed the subject...I´m not sure how to translate exactly what they said...but they expounded by saying their grandmas have Bibles, but they never see anyone our age). One thing that was sort of different for me was that while in the midst of so many people on the beach, Ruben started rolling and smoking a...drug...of some sort while we were all chatting. And I was really honored to be the one there to tell them. I mean it. Here I was getting to share the news of our lifetimes with people that have really heard very little about Jesus. The tough thing about Spain is that 1) no one thinks they sin or are sinners. 2) they feel like they will have had a fulfilled life if they can look back on it and say they were happy 3) they often think things outside of the Catholic realm are cults (so I´ve been informed) 4) their image of ¨church¨ isn´t very good often times
Anyways, that was a LOT of information for you poor tired readers that have made it this far! =o) Pray for Spain...even if it is just for a moment right now. I don´t want this patch of people to be forgotten.
